Rusty had 3 hands who were all very polite and clearly knowledgeable about their job. Once they began, they worked solely on my project, never pulling off to start another job. In fact, the boys even came on Saturdays.
We had a unique situation due to the water well that was located under our back porch. My husband wanted to leave access to the well, but we didn't want the foundation weakened because of it. Rusty made it happen!
Rusty would come each morning to oversee the progress and give instructions to his men and made sure we were satisfied along the way. I was very impressed with Rusty's attention to detail. For example, he was very concerned about where the rain water runoff would go and designed my sidewalks so that water would not stand in the yard.
The worst thing about the patio is that only half of it has the eye sore leaf imprints and the other half doesn't. So it's not like the leaves could pass as a distasteful stamp.
He asked for half the money up front, which seemed standard although another man we met with said only pay once it's done and dry and you're happy. (Should have used him!!)
Rusty has completed a root cellar, sidewalk, a/c pad, dirt road and culvert for us. He's always friendly and knowledgeable. He shows up when he says he's going to and he's reliable. No hidden our unseen charges. He quotes a price and what he can do and he delivers on it. He asks the necessary questions to complete the job and make sure your happy with the final product. I don't always trust a contractor's word, too many liars and bad contractors out there. I trust Rusty. Rusty has always done the right thing by us. If there is a problem he tries to rectify it ASAP.
If ever we are in need of more concrete work, I'll be calling Rusty Crane.
I called 4 contractors to get a bid on my job. I wanted a basketball pad for my son, several sidewalks, and needed my back patio completely redone since it had huge cracks in it. Rusty was the first one to respond. To date, I still have not heard back from 2 of the 4 contractors I called. Rusty came out immediately at a time that was convenient for me and gave me a free estimate.
The good news: he came right out to give an estimate, the estimate was medium high compared to other estimates we got so it seemed fair, and he was able to begin work on the patio within a week! That should have been our first clue- the other contractors we met with were booked for a month or so.
We put 10% down when we booked the job, paid about 1/2 the first week they started, and paid the remaining balance on the last day after we did a walk thru with Rusty to make sure everything was satisfactory.
My husband and I needed our patio done so we went about searching for experts. Rusty was extremely reassuring and friendly on the phone, and when I inquired about some of our unique specs, he guaranteed he could get the job done since he's been in business "over 30 years" as you'll hear him say often.
The bad news: he fired one of his workers midway through the job because that worker was asking for more money (????? That was weird), and he demanded payment before the concrete was even dry. My husband and I were both concerned because there were a lot of leaves in the patio and we didn't want them to dry there, looking weird. Rusty reassured us that the leaves fall in concrete all the time, and with a simple wash of the patio, they'll be gone and leave no imprints. We've never done concrete work and he's the expert so we hesitantly paid him, not wanting to be pests.
Well, when we went to "wash" the patio, the leaves left giant divets and it was almost worse than if we had not washed the patio.
Rusty was very friendly, and somehow makes you feel very at ease. I felt very comfortable asking questions, even ones that may have been considered dumb ones by someone with concrete knowledge. Rusty would listen to what we wanted, then sometimes make suggestions, and I'm glad he did!
